Why You Should Stop Sharing (It's for your own good)

We live in a share happy culture. We share what is awesome about us and hide what isn't. We shout about our success and quietly cry about our failures. Whilst sharing is portrayed as liberating, in reality it is actually crippling due to the reverse side of the coin- the things a perfect image makes you hide.

Keeping up appearances is nothing new-portraying a perfect life, at odds with reality, is a game as old as time. Whether it is posing perfectly at church minutes after screaming at each other in the car or having an argument with your partner before smiling for a family photo- we have all been there. Whilst the game may be old, social media has upped the stakes.
When appearances were maintained as a family, failures were handled in the family which allowed for some sort of support. However now, because we enthusiastically share every step on the path to success publicly, we have created a captive audience (many of whom we don't actually know or care too much about) who we 'report to'. On the flip side when things go wrong, even though we keep this to ourselves, the weight of the audiences judgement remains, resulting in us mourning our personal failures in pressured isolation.

This is what makes failure so terrifying. As I said in my last post, fear of failure is the kryptonite of success. Failures, setbacks, trials- they're all a part of life and are steps on the way to your goal.
Being afraid of failure is what makes you so afraid of trying again, and that is what will keep you from success.

My remedy to society?

1.Stop working so hard on your external image, and start working internally.
2.Nurture your dreams like plants, grow them. When good news happens- bank it for yourself- it is yours not the worlds.
3.Protect your dreams by keeping them to yourself in the formative stages- they are fragile. Tread each step on the path to success confidently and quietly.

By doing this, when you experience a setback, it will not be so powerful because you do not have to worry about your PR image. Figure it out for yourself. The world can wait.

It is time to take the power out of fear. The best way to do it is to ban the audience.

Love,

Lois

Anil Arjandas Opening with Lilly Ghalichi

Already popular and successful in Spain and a favourite of celebrities, the London opening of Anil Arjandas was highly anticipated and promised to be an unforgettable event- it did not disappoint.
Set in the heart of London's privileged Mayfair, serenely tucked away just behind Oxford street, lies the store on Davies st.

Anil Arjandas

Designer Anil Arjandas benefits from a wealth of cultural inspiration and international perspective due to his mixed Indian and Spanish heritage. As a result, each piece is has a unique reference to the beautiful kaleidoscope of South Asian and Mediterranean design.

The Collection

The collections really do have something for everyone, ranging from more classic emerald pieces for the more conservative and spikes for the contemporary. I had the pleasure of talking through the collections with Anils father ( who was dressed impeccably in a custom suit ) he proudly walked me though and explained what makes Anil Jewellery unique. Anil takes care to use black and brown diamonds, favouring them for their classy subtlety that alludes to confident old money luxury.  I love this, as not only are these diamonds beautiful, they are a change from the usual Elizabeth Taylor white diamond. The masterpieces are set in Antique Silver and Rose Gold, again offering a contemporary alternative to the traditional yellow gold.

Our Summary

I loved the collection because it was wearable luxury for the confident woman, who needs pieces that can seamlessly go from dazzling in the day to noticeable at night. In summary the collection is the 21st Century answer to old money glamour. Be sure to check the store out - 20 Davies St, Mayfair, London. As it is just a stones throw from Claridges its the perfect modern day Breakfast At Tiffany's activity- London edition. ;)

I wanted to the classic look for this event, and so I chose the 1940's glamour makeup, reinvented for the 21st century with an ombre lip.  I chose a figure hugging maroon dress from Asos. I completed the look with my favorite coat, in the style of the flattering Dior New Look and perfect for my retro glam direction.

The Hair And Makeup

To complete the ombre lip, I used Rimmel Colour 6 in the middle and Mac Rebel at the edges.Hair wise I wore one of Le Dutches' custom full wigs, for that over the top big hair luxury.
The hair is naturally straight but we gave it lose waves for an effortless modern look.

LFW is Here ! Fashion week essentials

WOO! That time of year when the fabulous are let loose over London to view the best of the new is finally here. Yes that's it I am talking about London Fashion Week, and for those of you fierce enough to be strutting it a Somerset house, I have comprised a London Fashion Week guide to the fashionable wild.

1. HATER BLOCKERS
Maybe you who work in the industry, or maybe you have been front row making appearances like a rock star- either way after parties mean late nights, and you are going to need some sexy shades to cover those fashion week bags. I love these Francois ones from Wolf and Badger- perfectly on trend and stylish. Remember just because you are front row, doesn't mean they have got to know ;)

2. LASTING LIPS

Lips say attitude, I love to opt for a bold lip, but what ever the colour you cant have it colour fading- so get yourself some mac lip primer and some pro long-wear lip colour...

3. CONVERSATION STARTER PIECES

OOH darling, where did you get that? I love your this....blah blah blah - fashion people love to be impressed with original pieces, and its a great way to get the conversation started . Space your statement pieces across the week with different outfits, you don't want to overdo it so pick one or two (complementing) conversation starters ( Love that ETRO printed skirt)  and keep the rest stylishly simple.

THE L A W
.....
The most important thing at fashion week is to stand out- Baring this in mind it is still important that you remain 100% authentically you, as the judgmental fashion crowd accepts no imitations.
Good luck!

Lots of Love,

Oscar De La Renta NYFW- Galliano Speculation

Ooh I hear from a little birdie ( ok not just one, its been a hot topic) that John Galliano has set up camp at Oscar de la Renta. The foot in mouth designer has been on the untouchable list since dismissal at Dior, with only a few bold enough to make press ' eye contact'. Well today the Oscar De La Renta  unvailed his AW13 collection, the first since getting in bed with Galliano- leaving the fashion tweeters to speculate as to how much influence he had on the collection ( great PR tactic). Well I dont know about you but the accentuation of the the female form and the style of these jackets look suspiciously Dior New Look to me. Well who ever has had their finger in this design pot I like it. Whats your verdict?

My 2 cents?

The accentuated and defined waists may be very Galliano Dior, but the experimentation and expression through fabrics is all Oscar De La Renta- As for the drama- I would say thats the both of them ;)

The Rise of : THE STATEMENT SKIRT

Click for this seasons sexiest statement skirts.
Well I do love a good entrance, and what better way to arrive then a floaty chiffon skirt smoothly floating on a summer breeze. This summer must have item seems to be the skirt. Often over looked, this season skirts have received a much needed style over haul. A popular style is skirts with a raised hemline at the front offering a unique and interesting take on the classic maxi skirt, and, of course, a chance to show off those tanned legs whilst remaining classy. Chic Chiffon is also a great fabric in use right now, I love the movement it creates, granting an air of regality with every step- demanding a double take.

1. Oscar De La Renta.

Came across this metallic number and fell in love. Check out the shimmer sway sparkle swagger.

Have a look at this multi levelled chiffon skirt by Georgia Hardinge via Wolf and Badger (www.wolfandbadger.com) . I love the trademark geometric design of the underskirt and the cooling effects of the choice in fabric colour, soothing like an ocean breeze.

Lace cut out sensation from Zara 2012 SS collection available online & in store. I love this because its easy to dress up or down from day to night.

Another from Zara, for that it statement print this look is the perfect item to an edge to your ensemble, team with a  cool blouse or light tank top. This vibrant skirt would go perfect with tanned legs.

Hope you enjoy this seasons greats of statement skirts. Now get shopping!

Love

People, Parties and Fashion: Wolf & Badger, Full Bloom Party

Well I was lucky enough to be one of the fabulous, fortunate enough to be found at Wolf and Badger's Full Bloom Party. For those of you who don't know , Wolf and Badger are an amazing concept store that have revolutionised the retail industry, by housing new, innovative and unique designers in chic, sleek , modern and luxury retail spaces

Set on a sunny afternoon their Full Bloom party was in full spring, drinks a flowing (some magical concoction of Briska cider, pepper, vanilla & vodka cocktails) with a fashionable crowd spilling on to the street... The DJ (Scott Le Rock) was spinning a perfect mix to lull your curiosity in to discover the collections of the new hot designers.Among the fresh meat, my personal was Bracher Emden, their statement embellished bags are the perfect addition to  any otherwise meek ensemble.
There are plenty more worth mentioning, but I'll let you discover- 46 Ledbury Road Notting Hill.
