The New Year Escape Plan... A different kind of resolution

One good thing about a recession is that it gets people thinking.  The sea of uncertainty separates the rodents who can jump, from those who prefer to go round in a wheel. A recession builds as much as it breaks, demanding initiative and independent determination from the individual who sees opportunity.

Unfortunately such an individual may go unprovoked for the majority of the year, distracted by the monotony of the yearly cycle, justified by the supposed worthiness of their contribution to the wheel of society. Yes, they silence that nagging voice that urges there could be more by plodding away in the system, allowing the years materialistic and artificial milestones to allow the illusion of progress. Yet ever so often something wonderful happens, circumstances align to awaken the individual to hope...a hope for more. And I mean a real more, not a more as in more things, more money, more clothes. More as in make more of a difference, more as in more happiness, more as in more success. This awakening is perhaps never more widespread as The New Year.

The New Year is an opportunity to pause and review, to look back at what one has been doing and evaluate if it is working. Typical New Years Resolution’s tend to favor a todo list of self improvements such as loosing weight or being nicer. Such resolutions are fine for the person who is more or less happy with their position on the rat wheel of society. However I would argue that for those individuals who know in their heart there is more, such resolutions are a cheap temporary filler for a permanent gaping hole.

Let me break it down some more, if you hate your job, if you are under appreciated and under paid, if you have a dream or a vision for contributing more to the world, if you have a business idea- if you have any of these, and your New Years Resolution is along the lines of ‘be nicer to Sally’ or ‘drop 10 lb’s’  you’re selling your self short.

Let your resolution be to sort your life out. I know thats daunting. I know thats a lot. I know that it is certainly more of a challenge then a neatly packaged pre suggested generic resolution, but it is what actually needs resolving. Each time you sit in that job you hate, with no plan of escape, or put off your traveling or charity work, or shelf your big idea you are abusing your spirit. Now let me be clear, I am not saying quit, sell up thy things and follow my teachings. I am simply saying make the resolution to water the seed of potential in you.

What does that look like you ask? Picture your mind is in a prison (thats right, I am getting all Matrix on your ass). When you first got into this prison, you had dreams of escape, dreams of more than the existence thrust upon you, but as time moved on reality took over the dream, and like a broken horse, you accustomed yourself to your surroundings and accepted your lot.  I am trying to help you escape.

The first step of escape is to realize that one is trapped. I think we have established that. The second step to escape is to visualize life on the other side, feed your dreams and acknowledge their realness. The third step is to plan escape, and the forth is to actually escape.

This year put into place a plan to get closer to your dream. That may take the form of sacrificing your ‘free time’ to research, plan and build. That may sound like a bummer but let me say this- it’s not free time until you are actually free, and doing what you were born to do.

So, if you feel that New Year Itch, scratch it. Work hard, Act fast. Set goals and work towards them now. January is like a rapidly closing window of awakening. If you don’t establish a plan now, pretty soon the monotony of the wheel will have entrapped you into its superficial routine. Time is precious, and so are you. If you know you are not living to your full potential, resolve to rectify this in 2014. I know times are tough and uncertain and blah blah blah- but these are the times you were dealt. And news flash the world has never been easy. You owe it to yourself. Escape.

Anil Arjandas Opening with Lilly Ghalichi

Already popular and successful in Spain and a favourite of celebrities, the London opening of Anil Arjandas was highly anticipated and promised to be an unforgettable event- it did not disappoint.
Set in the heart of London's privileged Mayfair, serenely tucked away just behind Oxford street, lies the store on Davies st.

Anil Arjandas

Designer Anil Arjandas benefits from a wealth of cultural inspiration and international perspective due to his mixed Indian and Spanish heritage. As a result, each piece is has a unique reference to the beautiful kaleidoscope of South Asian and Mediterranean design.

The Collection

The collections really do have something for everyone, ranging from more classic emerald pieces for the more conservative and spikes for the contemporary. I had the pleasure of talking through the collections with Anils father ( who was dressed impeccably in a custom suit ) he proudly walked me though and explained what makes Anil Jewellery unique. Anil takes care to use black and brown diamonds, favouring them for their classy subtlety that alludes to confident old money luxury.  I love this, as not only are these diamonds beautiful, they are a change from the usual Elizabeth Taylor white diamond. The masterpieces are set in Antique Silver and Rose Gold, again offering a contemporary alternative to the traditional yellow gold.

Our Summary

I loved the collection because it was wearable luxury for the confident woman, who needs pieces that can seamlessly go from dazzling in the day to noticeable at night. In summary the collection is the 21st Century answer to old money glamour. Be sure to check the store out - 20 Davies St, Mayfair, London. As it is just a stones throw from Claridges its the perfect modern day Breakfast At Tiffany's activity- London edition. ;)

Lois

I wanted to the classic look for this event, and so I chose the 1940's glamour makeup, reinvented for the 21st century with an ombre lip.  I chose a figure hugging maroon dress from Asos. I completed the look with my favorite coat, in the style of the flattering Dior New Look and perfect for my retro glam direction.

The Hair And Makeup

To complete the ombre lip, I used Rimmel Colour 6 in the middle and Mac Rebel at the edges.Hair wise I wore one of Le Dutches' custom full wigs, for that over the top big hair luxury.
The hair is naturally straight but we gave it lose waves for an effortless modern look.

Harpers Bazaar women of the year award

I am a fan of women, especially women who are doing their thing successfully, so of course I  would be commenting on the Harpers Bazaar Women of the Year Awards! For me, this is like Christmas and Carnival all in one- An awesome feel good event with amazing fashion and expression of style to pick over. So without further talk, Let the Life by Lois Best Dressed Awards Begin. Yay! ( So excited )

Rita Ora

Ok I have to start off with Rita Ora.

This girl can pull off so many different looks effortlessly she should be making Gaga nervous.
This particular look is Monroe reinvented for the 2013 ( and who doesn't love a futuristic Monroe).
Ora wears Ermanno Scervino, We love Italian Ermanno for his Italian trait of oozing luxury and opulence. This floor kissing gown is the epitome of glamor, whilst the oversized long sleeves give it the cool laid back look that is just so Rita Ora.  I love it!

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett always manages to look elegant and regal and this look is no different. What I specifically like about Cate and her style is that this look is not over done. It is simplistically elegant. The easy cut is flattering yet minimal whilst the embellishment on the cuff ensure that the outfit has an edge. Simply luxurious, but that's so Givenchy isn't it?  Givenchy gave it to us as far as embellishments were concerned at these awards. Style is an be an expression of who you are, and admittedly, we don't know Cate personally, but this outfit suggests that she is laid back yet likes things on point.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham.

This woman knows how to turn up! And this time with her son, reminding us all that this standard of perfection is humanly possible. A mother and business woman style queen and designer as well as a brand, Victoria is the poster child of a modern woman. Its all about life balance, and looking fabulous whilst juggling many of the (stylish) hats women wear. This picture for me is the epitome of that.

Olivia Munn

Winner of the cute award is Olivia Munn, in Givenchy. I first came across this beauty on New Girl as Nicks girlfriend, and have been watching her ever since. This look is a little bit more conservative then we are used to from this sex kitten, but none the less lovely, its a dress your mama would be proud of. The necklace colour adds an edge and the sparkly shoes complimenting the embellished pockets make this look just magical. So yeah I'm a fan.

Natalia Vodianova

Whilst this look is muted monochromatic,  I appreciate the play in fabrics of this dress. The result is a minimalist outfit that is tres chic

All in all I loved these ladies and hope you enjoyed my take on what rocked !

Love you!
