Oscars Glam : Best Dressed 2013

Well if you're anything like me, barricaded in by the relentless icy grip of winter, its nice to see someone, somewhere wearing something strapless. These Hollywood stars made me smile, vicariously enjoying their moment in the sun. I mean forget the dresses , I would swap with a homeless man in Hollywood right now. Any whoo these dresses were too beautiful to not share so here it is my Annual Oscars Best Dressed.

1.
 Giorgio Armani

Boom - that's one sexy Red Head!Jessica Chastain expertly avoids making her fair skin washed out with the wrong colours. This beautiful golden nude dress with art deco detail  crystal overlay is to die for, making her my favourite look of the day.
L A W // of life know your look & work it be you to the fullest.
Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra

This is bitter sweet for me because I don't love K-Stew -  she usually looks grungy, dirty and awkward but  this is none of these things. I love how she looks in this beautiful Reem Acra Couture dress. I love Reem Acra ( see earlier NYFW post) and Kristen  makes this gown look young and chic. So yeah, she's alright... it turns out a beautiful dress can change everything. Go Kristen.

Woohoo! My girl,  the beautiful Kerry Washington is all shades of happening in this Mui Mui gown. Elegantly understated, Kerry decides against jewellery and allows the bold neck embellishment to do the talking. She looks a million bucks.

Valentino knows how to dress a woman , and Jenifer Aniston looks beautiful in this bold red evening gown, with a luxuriously full skirt and sculpted waist.

Charlize Theron lets her face do the talking with her cropped haircut and simplistic Dior white gown, complimented subtly with Harry Winston Jewellery.

I may just like this because it's Jenifer Hudson and I am impressed with how great she looks for losing all that weight- I don't usually like front slits ( tacky) but I do like the fabric and shimmer of this midnight blue fitted dress. So yes I guess its not just Jen, I do love this Valentino gown.

George Clooney's plus one Stacy Keibler ensures all eyes are on her in this bold yet subtle, powerful yet elegant Naeem Khan metallic gown.

Amy Adams floats on a cloud in this dreamy Oscar De La Renta gown.

Guilty pleasure here as this gold may be criticised by some for being a bit tacky, but I just love how regal Catherine Zeta Jones looks in this Zuhair Murad gown.

Sandra Bullock looks as lovely as the night sky ( corny but whatever) in this Elie Saab beaded gown

The IT List : Gold, Felder Felder, Chanel and the East

I have been coming across a number of things I simply must share , so I am starting a tradition.  The It List.a compilation of all the random things in the week I see & love.

The It
I.
GOLD

Vogue Italia highlighted the comeback of gold & just had to re-blog. Gold is back- so all you fools who sold yours for cash, you can cry now, pay later. I love gold- when it is done right. Gold compliments my skin tone, and since summer is coming soon (I was promised) , it will suit all the tans that will no doubt follow.

Vogue  Italia  Trend list

It's no surprise that the Italians who have a heritage for opulent glamour are starting the campaign for the re election of gold. They have got my vote :)
Something to keep you holding on till the sun shines: these gorgeous D&G sunglasses.

Jason Wu revives Saturday Night Fever for the 21 st Century whilst Balmain revives the regallity of east and west.

The It
II.
Felder Felder AW 13 at LFW

Sensational sisters Annette and Daniella Felder exploited what I love most about Autumn : the opportunity to experiment with textures, and colour whilst layering up against seasons changes. Inspired by the 70s, Felder Felder re-visited an era rich with texture, opulence, attitude and colour , and gave it a millennium makeover utilizing new fabrics to create  visually stunning combinations.

Velvet & Latex

 III.
Chanel Lego Bag

Rumoured the 'IT bag' of 2013, Chanel's Lego Bag had to make it onto my it list. Now, I am not one to break the bank for a hand bag, but even I want this...so I guess I better bust out my old Lego set and get to work... :)

 VI.
The STYLIST : Asia Edition

Asian Supermodel Miao Bin Si introduces herself to London with a stunning editorial for The Stylist.

I love to see Asian models in western media, in fact I love to see a healthy variety of multicultural  beauty represented in the fashion industry. With the dawn of the Chinese new year came a record amount of Asian models on the runway of LFW :This shoot celebrates progress for representing diversity in fashion.

Enjoy visual & cultural benefits by loving thy (global) neighbors...

And my own personal IT ... Classic inspired beauty-

In Pictures... Burberry Front Row Beauties & Famous Faces.

I dare say off the runway was as entertaining as on....as to be expected among those lucky enough to secure a front row seat to the hottest show in town.

Burberry AW 2013 Collection LFW The Brilliant the Bad and the Baffling.

Whilst remaining overall impressive, this AW13 Burberry collection found me tut tutting for large segments of the show. A victim of extremes, it was far to garish for my taste in some places ...

... and far too dull in others.

Yawn .
And the models wore flats  :(

There were elements that had me screaming WHY?!

( HATE that tacky gold heart on an otherwise beautifully elegant dress... this isn't GAP kids)

The Brash: Shiny PVC and Leopard print was reminiscent of something that would fascinate the ladies of Absolutely Fabulous or young Pat Butcher.

Still there were other redeeming pieces in the collection that saved the day, ensuring that all in all I would grade this to be another success for Christopher Bailey. I would not mark it up there with previous collections, no, this had decidedly less POW! (For want of a better expression).

However this is Burberry - and with the talented Christopher at the helm there is always a bright side, today it was that if anything, I can certainly say there was something for everyone.

Ever the optimist, here I have compiled my favorite looks from the show.

Statement Skirts

Super sexy and work friendly- If you cant wear this at your office I suggest you change career ( live a little) these skirts were definitely doing it for me. The right balance of elegance and extravagance they are the definition of a classic night to day statement look. Love it.

Daring Dresses.

In the words of Biggie these dresses were sicker than your average. Although I do not know many who could get away with wearing the first one ( myself included), who cares?! With the hefty price tag, its not like it was designed for the masses....and if you can wear that dress- financially and otherwise- I say rock it!

Coats for Coveting

The contrasts in fabrics and textures within a nude pallet make this by far my favorite look ^

Love the elegant simplicity of this coat ^

On the whole, the coats were by far the best part of the collection, but what else would you expect from over a century of quality coat making. If you write the book, you can change the rules.

So yes, all in all a good job by Burberry....although the over all collection was not as interestng as previous years, Burberry remains still, as always, leaps ahead of their competition.

L A W on Life.... If your far ahead , occasionally you can slow down. Occasionally.

Love,
