Galliano Debut for Margiela : My Verdict

Back in 2011 nothing got the fashion birds in a tweeting frenzy more than John Galliano's dismissal from Dior and subsequent excommunication from the fashion world following his bizarre anti Semitic comments. Yet here we are in 2015 and it seems the fickle world of fashion has forgiven Galliano, or at least, anger has made way for curiosity. 4.30 yesterday, fashion designers, journalists and elites hot footed it after the Burberry show (Christopher Bailey included) and gathered anxiously to catch a glimpse of Galliano's anticipated debut collection for Maison Martin Margiela.

Whilst many have been reticent to forgive, my self included, no one can deny that fashion has sourly missed this scorned genius. One question was on everyones minds, "Is this collection enough to see him rise back to the top Phoenix style?"  My answer, in a word is yes.

The collection was rich in drama, as you would expect from Galliano, bold silhouettes were complimented with a generous use of chiffon- granting the theatrics of movement. The strict black and red palette, embellished breast plates, masks and makeup gave collection a look of ferocious beauty, perhaps hinting to a designer on the defence yet confident in his craft.

It is evident that he came ready, he came fighting, and he came to stay.

Kriss Soonik 5th Anniversary Party

Last night on the 5th of November as fire works exploded over the city, contemporary lingerie brand Kriss Soonik celebrated their 5th Anniversary against the sparkling back drop of the London Skyline.

The event, hosted on the 7th floor rooftop of the Ace Hotel East London, saw the industry gather together to recognise the brand which in just 5 years has made undoubtable contribution to both the world of fashion and lingerie. Kriss Soonik is loved for their versatile, rebellious and sexy statement pieces which weave seamlessly into a city fashionistas ootd.

Creation of British designer Kriss Soonik, the brand has now become a worldwide sensation for international daring it-girls and fashion influencers has been featured on Mishca Barton, Bond girl Berenice Marlohe and photographed by Rankin.

The brand truly connects lingerie to everyday, giving each woman a sexy secret to feel good about on a daily basis. A personal favourite of mine are the suspender tops. Business up top, party down below.

Alek enjoys the collection

Picture a room basking in the glow of excitement, with every corner occupied by something or someone beautiful and you will have the MYLA 15 th Anniversary Party, an event truly fitting tfor the brand that has become synonymous with innovation, beauty and quality.

Last night fashion, music and media’s elite and memorable gathered together to celebrate the 15 years of excellence at the house of MYLA. Supermodel Alek Wek was among the famous faces, along with Jodie Kidd, Oswald Boateng and Amber Le Bon.

DJ Laura Whitmore- Loved her style!

From the DJ set by Laura Whitmore to the stunning live models wearing the collection, true to the MYLA pieces themselves, not one detail of the event was spared.

Made In Chelsea's Lucy Watson Enjoys Champagne By Pol Roger

What we drank & ate

The drinks were delicious with Cocktails by Johnnie Walker Gold Label, Champagne by Pol Roger and Asahi Beer. As for food, it was right up my alley, as it’s always nice when you come to a party and the food doesn’t make you bloat! The deliciously healthy canape’s were from Honestly Healthy by Natasha Corrett.

Unique Touches

But it was the flower headbands that had me, provided by The Flower Appreciation Society, a bespoke selection of flowers were hand woven to adorn each guest. There was also a photo booth, designed exclusively for MYLA by Rankin & Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reseve, where guests could show off their headbands and immortalise memories.

Overall the vibe was electric and positive, aided by my fair share of cocktails, I got talking to some of the great people who were there. Including Alek Wek, who despite being a fashion icon is incredibly real, charming and down to earth, and lit up the party, posing with models and enjoying the flowers.

Oscar De La Renta Dies at 82, A look at his incredible life

Oprah with Oscar De La Renta Image Via Vogue.

For several decades, Oscar De La Renta has been a hallmark of fashion. His beautiful designs have graced the backs of Oprah, Beyonce, Michelle Obama and most recently, George Clooney's bride, Amal Alamuddin.

We know Oscar as the talented designer who has made fashion history, but how did a boy from Dominica manage to become the designer to first ladies?

Born in Dominica in 1932, at the age of 18, he moved to Spain to follow his passion for art and commenced studies in painting. This ignited an interest in fashion and led to Oscar work along side Spanish Designer Christobal Balenciaga in an apprenticeship. This Spanish influence of romance and ruffles is one that remained with Oscar De La Renta throughout his fashion career.

It was in the 60's, when Oscar earned his fame.  First Lady Jackie Kennedy solidified him as a designer to the elite, developing a love for his designs and wearing them regularly.

Dresser of the first it girl from Jackie Kennedy it was all a go and he went on to design for Laura Bush, Michelle Obama & Hilary Clinton as well as countless stars. His work was iconic, effortlessly feminine and fundamentally beautiful. In 2014 he was awarded the Medal of Excellence at Carnegie Hall in New York.

The cause of death has not been officially verified, but we do know that Oscar who was diagnosed with cancer, died peacefully at his home in Connecticut surrounded by his family & pets.

Fashion will certainly miss this genius but if one thing is a comfort, the world is a more beautiful richer place, thanks to one boy from Dominica following his passion.
